Questions and answers — continued

  1. In a recent book about your work — Margaret Atwood: Works and Impact, edited by Reingard M Nischik — the bibliography contains two pages of books by you and more than two pages of books about you. How do you feel about this?

Books by, books about — well, all one can say is that the books by me have kept me off the street, and the books about me have kept other people off the street. But it’s not size that counts. No, really.

  2. Do you have your next novel in your head already?

In a word, no. Nor do I have much of anything else in my head either. That’s what happens on a book tour. Your head becomes remarkably empty.
